Dear Parents / Carers and Staff
Firstly I would like to say a big congratulations to the children who took part in the Ten Tors Jubilee Challenge. We also had a first for the Federation with both schools working with the Dartmoor Ponies Trust on the Fresh Tracks project. Students worked together from both schools to walk ponies around the Tors on an 11.5 mile trek. Another excellent outcome for the children.
Mrs Sharon Dunne left us recently to move to a new career in caring for young people. We wish her luck with her future career change. Mrs Judith Ashton has also left us due to retirement.
After a rigorous interview process, Mr Mark Rose has been appointed as Head of School at Oaklands. He will take up his new post in September. I am sure he will introduce himself to you in the near future.
Miss Fran Fox has requested to become our PE teacher from September. As her contact will be a federation contract she will be working across both sites as the PE specialist for both schools. Miss Fox has been working at Ratcliffe, building up the physical activities programme for the children. She is very keen that all children have access to high quality physical activities that challenge the children in their overall development. She has been working with Mrs Julia Bradshaw about the programme that will start in the new school year.
Mrs Rebecca Tanner has also requested a federation contract as a Thrive practitioner. This has been a positive move as I believe the Thrive programme really benefits our children. Again, she will start her new contract in September, but she is popping back and forth in the interim period.
As you are aware there have been major changes to the structure of the care provision. This has led to several staff being made redundant. A full list of leavers will be shared with all parents of the residential students prior to the end of the summer term.
Keeping Children Safe
Please be aware of what your child is accessing on their tablets, computers, phones or laptops. If you are worried about anything that they are accessing and want some advice, please contact Mr Dave Adams or Mrs Melanie Anstead who will sign post you to the appropriate support networks or indeed offer advice themselves.
We do offer parent short groups for e-safety. Keep an eye on the diary events.
Please provide sun lotion for your child in school. We will need your consent to apply it if needed. Please help your child to be 'sun savvy' and provide a cap or sun hat if the weather is hot.
Annual Reviews and EHCPs
Please be aware that when we set dates for the reviews, we can only change them for a limited period of time as there is a timeline that we need to follow in order to get the paperwork back to the 0-25 SEN team for processing. We will advise you of this if there is a need to change the dates.
At long last we have a new website that should be going live very shortly. Please let us know what you think as feedback is very important to us.
A parent's questionnaire will be sent out shortly for your attention. Again, your feedback would be gratefully received.
Progress to Date
The outcome of our recent evaluation visit by the Local Authority was that they were pleased with the progress we are making in the classroom and the school in general. The new assessment process and notes of progress were identified as a strength, but must be maintained by all teachers. We will continue to work on this so that we are able to show you, as parents, clear evidence of your child's progress.
Mrs Julie Gibbons and Ms Karen Monaghan will be writing to you shortly about the new progress levels. They will also be on our new website for your attention along with the curriculum overview and timetable.
The dates for the parents meetings will be out shortly. Please choose a time that will suit you best.
