In 2012, Oaklands Park became a member of the SENTIENT Trust. This co-operative Trust is formed of all of Devon's maintained special schools. Our partners include the Co-operative Schools & College Trust and Devon County Council. The Atkinson School, Exeter, is also a founding partner of the Trust.

The Trust, which is the first of its kind in the UK, exists to promote excellent education and care for children and young people who attend special schools in the county.

Our pupils attended the official launch day in Crealy Park, Exeter, in November. Our contribution to the Trust celebration was to perform our famous ribbon dance. Everyone had a great time and the dance was praised to the hilt by people from other schools.

SENTIENT is managed by a board of Trustees, which comprises headteachers and governors from all of Devon's special schools, with representatives of our partner organisations.

The chair of the Trust is Keith Bennett, head of a school in North Devon, and the Business Consultant to the Trust is Heidi Hallam.
